In our club's first year of participation in Super Y League, our U17's qualified for the Super Y League National Finals held this past week at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The team consisted of an excellent group of our current 2002, 2003 and 2004 boys players.
The boys competed very well winning two matches and tying one in group play. However, Fullerton Rangers from LA advanced from the group on goal differential into the national semifinals. In group play, MSC conceded a late equalizing goal in a 2-2 tie against Fullerton, which ultimately sealed our fate.
The competition was very good. But more importantly, the event marked the finale of a fantastic group of U17's that raised their level at a national event. For much of the team, this was their first time at a national finals event. The team was a project for me and the coaching staff, as much of what players learned and achieved from this event can carry over to their play with their current MSC teams for the remainder of the year. Players left the event very confident in their game, and came together nicely as a group. The players have now increased their drive to get back to a nationals event after getting a taste of the environment.
Special thanks to Anna Lonergan for taking on the managerial and assistant coach duties for the team. Everything ran smoothly.
Looking forward to this coming summer and further growth of our Super Y League program for our boys and girls program.
