Referees for MSC League and Tournament Games The Westchester Soccer Referees Organization (WSRO) assigns the referees for all MSC home games for league and tournament play and handles paying the referees who work those games. Team managers/coaches are encouraged to file Game Reports about the referee's performance for each game (good and bad). Please note that the most effective reports are as objective as possible - referees are always eager to receive fair and balanced feedback that demonstrates knowledge of the Laws of the Game. Become a Referee
Appropriate Behavior Toward Referees The primary mission of every soccer referee is to be responsible for (1) the safety of the players; (2) the equitable management of the game; and (3) the flow of the game. To that end, there are 17 Laws of the Game of soccer. Law 5 states: "Each match is controlled by a referee who has full authority to enforce the Laws of the Game in connection with the match to which he has been appointed." Law 12, Fouls and Misconducts, mandates a Yellow Card ("cautionable offense") be given to anyone who "shows dissent by word or action." In pursuit of this mission, the referee must make many decisions during the course of a game. Whether or not you agree with a referee's decision(s), the soccer referee's authority to control and manage games is necessary and complete. Respect the fact that the referee is trying his or her very best, and learn to respect the referee's decisions. Bottom line: MSC wants its members to set a great example for our players, and for the teams we play. Respect the referee, period. Thank you.
